Born and educated in South Africa, Ilona Petzer holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree, University Pretoria.

She started her painting career in 1996 when she traded her dancing shoes for a paintbrush, attending classes and workshops held by some highly esteemed and reputable artists locally and internationally.
She has taken part in several group exhibitions, and her work has featured in major South African publications such as the “Collectors guide to South African Art” and the “SA Art Information Directory”:

  • Open Studio Exhibition at the Cite des Arts Paris 2010
  • Group Exhibition in Hydrabad India 2010
  • Florence Biennale for Contemporary Art in Italy 2011
  • International Art Exhibition “Eco Living” in Mauritius 2011
  • International Art Exhibition Assisi Italy 2012
  • Izmir Biennale for International Art ,Turkey 2013

One of her paintings forms part of a standing art collection of the Mbombela Municipality at the Mbombela Art Gallery Nelspruit.

She has done special assignments for The Cancer Association and Child Welfare She is the founder of the Lowveld Association of Arts.
